ACH Origination

What will ACH Origination do for your business?

  • Create efficiency and control of your payables and receivables and direct deposits for employee payroll. Schedule recurring transactions, set user permissions, utilize dual control.
  • Improve Cash Flow with faster clearing times. No more waiting for checks to clear means easier reconciliation.
  • Reduce Costs by eliminating envelopes, postage and checks (including stop payment fees for lost checks).
  • Mitigate fraud risk associated with mail theft and counterfeit checks. Account numbers are not exposed to receivers.

How Do I Get Started?

1. Enter into an agreement with Border Bank:

Things to think about:

  • Who will be doing the processing, or will I be using a third-party processor
  • How often will I process files?
  • What is the average dollar amount of each file?
2. Obtain applicable authorizations:

ACH Originators must obtain authorization from the Receiver to originate one or more debit or credit entries to the Receiver’s account. The authorization is a key component of the ACH transaction, as it gives your company, as the Originator, the authority to send transactions to the Receiver’s account. There are different authorization requirements based on the Receiving account belonging to a consumer (person) or a company (business).

Authorization requirements for consumer (PPD) transactions.

  • Must be in writing and signed or similarly authenticated prior to initiating an ACH entry.
  • Language regarding whether the authorization is for a Single Entry or Recurring Entries.
  • The amount of the Entry or method of determining the amount.
  • The Receiver's name or identity.
  • The account to be debited.
  • The date of the Receiver's authorization.
  • Language that instructs the Receiver how to revoke the authorization.

Authorization Requirements for Commercial (CCD) Transactions

  • Agreements do not have a specific format requirement, but you must obtain the Receiving Companies agreement to be bound by NACHA Operating Rules.

To obtain a Sample Authorization Form, contact our treasury management team.

3. Schedule training:

Upon receipt of a fully executed ACH origination agreement, Border Bank will complete system setup and coordinate training sessions with applicable processors.
