Border Bank Announces 2023 Cultivate Award Winners

Each year, Border Bank selects three employees to receive the prestigious Cultivate Awards, representing the areas of service, community and innovation. This year’s recipients are:

Cultivate Service Award:  Nick Selvog, Tech Support Specialist, Greenbush, MN
Cultivate Community Award:  Kelly Engstrom, Mortgage Banker, Fargo, ND
Cultivate Innovation Award:  Sharla Kilen, Deposit Operations Manager, Badger, MN

“Border Bank’s Cultivate Awards program is a way to recognize team members who provide exceptional experiences for their customers, co-workers and communities. It is our team members who bring our culture of service, community, and innovation to life each day and we are thrilled to honor those who make Border Bank a great place to work and do business with these coveted awards,” said Steph Melgaard, Retail Banking Director.

Selvog, Engstrom, and Kilen were nominated by their peers for these awards. “We are truly thankful for all the extraordinary work these three individuals have accomplished and appreciate their contributions to the communities Border Bank serves. Well-deserved accolades to each one of them,” said Kory Shae, CEO.

Team members described Selvog as a positive, smart, and efficient coworker who is quick to answer questions, assist those in need, and go out of his way to help others. Engstrom’s peers described her as a dedicated servant to the community, a talented team member who is quick to offer her time and resources to build up the communities where she lives and works. Kilen was defined as a knowledgeable, caring, and diligent leader who is patient when training others, who always finds new ways to accomplish tasks, and does the little things that make a big impact.

To recognize and celebrate the award winners for their contributions, each were presented a crystal trophy and a cash award to be used to fund an experience or adventure for themselves and their families.

Border Bank was established in 1935 and has nine branches throughout Minnesota, including Coon Rapids, Greenbush, Thief River Falls, Middle River, Badger, Roseau, Baudette, International Falls, Clearbrook and two branches in Fargo, North Dakota. Border Bank’s mantra is Customer First – Community Focused, which is the cornerstone of the Cultivate Awards Program.
